Both colic and reflux can cause babies to become extremely distressed, manifesting in constant crying. Parents are often at a loss to assist their child.

  • For addressing reflux parents will be advised to modify their child’s sleep environment by inclining the mattress. In a traditional cot or bassinet this can be difficult to achieve safely. The Amby Hammock is naturally slightly inclined, and the degree of inclination can be adjusted to find the right angle for baby. By being inclined the acid and milk is less likely to rise into the upper respiratory tract, causing the pain, crying and vomiting associated with reflux.
  • Colic can be recognised by the baby drawing its legs up to the abdomen, clenching fists, arching the chest and prolonged crying. The phsyical thrashing and bracing of these positions is exhausting for babies, and difficult for caregivers to support without feeling stressed or helpless. Parents can spends hours pacing the house, patting and rocking. The hammock will cradle the baby in an angled position and the caregiver can bounce the hammock vertically to provide sustained rhythmic motions which were experienced in the womb. The hammock saves a lot of sore backs as parents can stand freely!
